Allies and Acquaintances in the Professional World

CRecently I stumbled across an article written by Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn and early investor of Facebook, called Allies & Acquaintances: Two Key Types of Relationships. The article looks at the importance of “professional allies, people who have your back” and how “weak ties and acquaintances expand the breadth of your network”.

As a professional with experience in the higher education and marketing industries, I found this to be really accurate.  I think McCombs BBAs will find Mr. Hoffman’s thoughts relevant and useful, whether you are just exploring career options, preparing for an internship or nervous about starting a full-time career and leaving a wonderful college life behind.

Some of you might even be able to relate to this article based on your current experiences as a BBA student. Can you relate?! Let us know in the comments!

Megan Ehrisman is a BBA Career Advisor who loves working with marketing majors at McCombs. She is experiencing her fourth December as an Austinite and is still amazed that she can still wear flip-flops.
