The Deloitte NextGen Leaders National Conference is held annually for college freshman that have an interest in Deloitte LLP. I attended the summer 2012 program and was chosen to represent Deloitte Consulting for their Strategy and Operations Group (S&O). After arriving at the sprawling training center and campus of Deloitte University (DU) in Westlake, Texas, I was immediately impressed by Deloitte’s hospitality and the amazing DU facility. My experience was truly rewarding. I made friends from universities across the country and made numerous connections with Deloitte professionals.
For the conference, we were placed into teams and worked with Deloitte professionals who served as our mentors. The theme of teamwork stayed consistent throughout the program as we did everything from a complicated bridge building activity to communication classes taught by Hollywood professionals. We had the opportunity for more fun through laser tag, a pizza cook off, trivia games, karaoke, and community service with the local food bank.
The benefits of attending the NextGen Conference are tremendous. Not only do you build a strong professional network of Deloitte professionals and fellow colleagues, but you have a great time in a fun environment. The fact that Deloitte is committed to providing the opportunity to McCombs students represents the firm’s commitment to professional development and to fostering talented individuals in a team through service and goal oriented activities. During the conference, I was given the chance to interview for a summer internship and will be interning this summer with the Deloitte Dallas office.
As a freshman, I didn’t realize that this type of rewarding opportunity was available to me. Without hesitation, I recommend that McCombs freshmen take the time to learn more and apply to the NextGen program. The 2013 NextGen Leaders National Conference will be held July 21-24 at Deloitte University. Opportunities are available to freshmen interested in Audit & Enterprise Services (AERS), Consulting, Financial Advisory Services (FAS), and Tax.
