Where will you be interning?
I will be working for Amazon in San Bernardino, California.
How did you go about getting your internship? What steps did you take?
Amazon recruiters invited leaders of McCombs organizations to eat dinner with them, which I gladly attended. I then talked to students I knew that had previously interned with Amazon. After dropping my résumé on OCR, I talked to recruiters at the career fair and interviewed with them on campus.
What classes do you think were the most valuable in getting your internship?
335H was very helpful me in understanding process flows and strategies for improving efficiency. MIS 301H also prepared me with a knowledge of the tech industry so I already had a good understanding of Amazon’s business model.
What advice would you give to others as they search for an internship?
Don’t get discouraged because recruiting is a very humbling and unpredictable experience. Some of the interviews I thought I aced didn’t turn pan out into offers and vice versa. Be sure to stay confident and optimistic and walk into every interview with the attitude that you are the most qualified person for the job.
Can you describe how your interview went?
The interview was conducted on campus in two parts. The first part was case-based where I had to optimize a manufacturing process scenario and talk through conflict management situations. The second half consisted of standard behavioral questions.
What were the hardest questions they asked in your interview?
The first recruiter opened the interview by flipping my resume over, grabbing a pen, and asking “what is the one thing I should remember about you”.
