What is the job title of the position for which your company is recruiting for and where is the job located?
Similar to last year, General Mills (GMI) Finance is recruiting for the Financial Analyst Intern position within the Finance Leadership Development Program (FLDP), which is a 10-12 week internship located at our World Headquarters in Minneapolis, MN. However, this year we’ve also made plans to recruit full time candidates for the FLDP Financial Analyst position as well. The full time position is a rotational leadership program that enables employees to experience various rotations throughout their entire career within the Finance function including: Sales Finance, Marketing Finance, Corporate Finance, Supply Chain Finance, International Finance, and more!
Why should job seekers consider your position/what makes your position a great opportunity?
In addition to Interns receiving a significant level of responsibility and the opportunity to work on value added projects for the organization, they will also enjoy a summer filled with exciting professional development and social events planned by the Finance Recruiting Intern Team including Minnesota Twins games, rooftop lawn bowling (think Bocce ball but more fun), and boat excursions on Lake Minnetonka just to name a few. Full time analysts will have the immediate opportunity to provide financial advocacy for the brands that they grew up on, while taking advantage of formal Finance training through the License to Drive training session and optional on-campus Excel courses.
Please share the perspective of an employee that is currently in the position or has worked in the position:
As a native Texan, I didn’t necessarily envision myself living in Minneapolis prior to completing the Financial Analyst internship, however by mid-summer I knew that GMI was a great fit for my personal values (i.e. family, work-life balance), and by returning to GMI full time I knew that I would gain exposure to tremendous professional development opportunities that are extremely rare to come by. After having been in the FLDP for 7 years I can now confirm that the breadth of experiences I’ve received has made me a better general business partner, not just a Finance expert.
What programs does your company have in place to help new employees adjust to moving and to building a network?
In addition to the competitive salary for the internship and full time position, General Mills also provides a relocation bonus for all candidates that covers most moving expenses. Additional intern support comes in the way of subsidized summer lodging in a building filled with interns from various functions within the organization, which makes building a social network seamless. In addition to making sure candidates are entertained and witnessing all the Twin Cities has to offer, the Finance Recruiting Intern Team (FRIT) ensures that candidates are getting exposure to senior leadership within the Finance function through various professional development events. Full time candidates have the option to work with a relocation specialist to identify the ideal location to call home in the Twin Cities, and can get similar exposure to senior leadership as well as regular professional development through events hosted by the Financial Analyst Network (FAN).
