Where did you intern?
I worked for Deloitte Consulting as a Business Technology Analyst

How did you go about getting your internship? What steps did you take?

I heard about the BTA Internship through a couple friends who had experienced it the summer before. My recruiting process began by attending the mixers and case workshops that Deloitte hosts before recruiting season formally begins. At these events, I connected with Deloitte practitioners and discovered that the company culture was a good fit for me. From there, a resume drop on OCR led to the first round interview.

What classes do you think were the most valuable in getting your internship?
The communication skills taught in BA324 and the knowledge of software development taught in MIS 374. What advice would you give to others as they search for an internship?
Network, network, network. Take every opportunity that you can to form a connection with professionals from the firm. Workshops, informational sessions, mixers, and the career fair are great places to do this.

Can you describe how your interview went?

Comfortable, yet efficient. If you have networked effectively at this point, you would have met most of your interviewers. This goes a long way toward relieving the stress and intimidation factors. That said, the questions were challenging. They did a good job of eliciting your personal values as well as evaluating your analytical skills. What were the hardest questions they asked in your interview?
Aside from the technical/case questions, “Why Deloitte?” is a question that they will grill you on. A simple answer like “I like the people.” or “Deloitte Technology is the best.” won’t cut it. Be prepared to elaborate on the experiences you’ve had that really drove you to choose Deloitte.

Can you describe your experience during the internship?
My summer as a BTA Summer Scholar was incredible. I was staffed on a client in Denver, Colorado, and had the pleasure of traveling there every week. From the very beginning, I had plenty of exposure to senior Deloitte staff, as well as teams from the client. Fridays in the Dallas office were filled with numerous learning opportunities and networking events that allowed me to really determine if I was a fit for this company. I was also able to spend a week at Deloitte University, where I received equal parts training and pampering. This was a summer filled with new experiences. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who loves travel and interacting with people.
