When I started my job search, I had no idea what I wanted to do post college; I applied to any and every position on OCR in hopes that my several internships and years of work experience would get me my dream job—but really, what was my dream job?
When I saw the opportunity for BBVA Compass’s leap program, a rotational program that helps recent grads identify what area of the bank they should launch their career with, I thought—this is perfect. Not only would I be able to “test run” each area I was interested in, but I would be provided with a mentor, work with a group of 20-30 associates, network with top managers and talent, receive training classes from Dale Carnegie, and learn about the banking industry—in just one year. Needless to stay, I applied.
After interviewing with a former leap associate at the Career Center, I became moreexcited about the program! I had several questions about the program structure and location, but she quickly was able to ease my concerns. She also talked to me about BBVA Compass’s International presence, which appealed to me, since my family is from Argentina and I was eager to use my Spanish skills at the workplace. My next interview was in Houston with 3 top-talent managers and an HR representative, and that ran as smoothly as any nervous undergrad REALLY wanting a position could be. A couple of days went by and in mid-October, I received my offer for leap with BBVA Compass!!!
I still get chills thinking about that moment, because after meeting the incredible people, interviewing in my potential work environment, and the opportunity, I knew this was the best option for me. Now, being a McCombs grad, I of course had several other options and offers on the back burner, but I was compelled to work for BBVA Compass. Three years, 5 promotions, and wonderful experiences in Birmingham later, I can say without a doubt BBVA Compass and leap changed my life for the better and I am so excited to see what it could do for you! #livebright
