It’s that time of year again—the time where you make what seems like the biggest decision of your life, accepting an offer. Whether its 10 weeks of your summer or the next 2 years post-grad, deciding where you want to spend 40+ hours a week is a weighty decision, and rightfully so.
Today information is flying at our faces faster than we can digest it. Through the pro/con lists, the info sessions, and the company dinners, seemingly, there is plenty of information to make the best choice. So why do you feel like you’re missing something big once you sign the dotted line?
This is where the FOMO hits—the fear of missing out. At McCombs, you are surrounded by driven, brilliant students, all of whom have incredible opportunities ahead of them. There are hundreds of companies that come to recruit here so it’s easy to think the grass is greener elsewhere.
- Meaningful work
- Company brand
Then, what is the most distinguishing factor about each company you’re considering? What makes each of them unique, and what makes them seemingly the same? Find what is most important to you, and aim for the company that is most distinguished in those features.
Most of all, this is what I want you to remember: most post-grads change companies every 2-3 years. Choose wisely based on what is most important to you, but know this choice is just the beginning of your career path journey. Choose the skills you’d like to develop, the city you want to live in/try out, the people you want to work with and the experience you want to add to your life and resume. Have confidence that you are making the best decision for yourself and don’t look back!
