Does working with a globally recognized company to solve a real-world marketing problem sound intriguing to you? What if hundreds of students around the globe were doing the same thing? If you answered yes, then L’Oréal’s Brandstorm Competition is for YOU.
When my team and I joined the competition last spring, we had no idea the kind of work that lay ahead of us: late nights, revisions, conference calls and Skype meetings. We also had no idea how much we would learn. Working closely with a group of three students over the course of six months taught us about teamwork and pushing each other to deliver our very best every time. In addition, receiving feedback from professionals who are experts in their fields allowed us to deliver a product we were truly proud of.
If you are considering forming a team to compete in this year’s competition, I have a few pieces of advice:
- Be committed. This project could be long-term, and you want to make sure that everyone will contribute the whole time.
- Be diverse. Even though this is a marketing case competition, it is helpful to have someone from another business discipline to provide an alternative side of things that may not have been otherwise considered.
- Ask for feedback. Chances are your first idea is not your best idea, but if you ask any professor or professional to look over your work, you will find a wealth of knowledge and support.
- Have fun! The experiences we had and lessons we learned during this competition are things we will never forget. The opportunity to travel to L’Oréal’s national headquarters in New York City and international headquarters in Paris, France is the chance of a lifetime.
