I joined Ascend 4.5 years ago. I started as a marketing specialist supporting email and direct mail campaigns for Verizon, one of our enterprise-level clients. I quickly advanced at Ascend, and I now manage Ascend’s social media and digital media team. Prior joining Ascend, I worked at Toluna, a market research company, and the Richards Group.
What I really like about Ascend is its culture, flexibility and an opportunity for growth. Ascend is a very welcoming and supportive environment. One of our values is heart for people – we really care about each other, our clients, and our vendors. We take pride in the Ascend community. We celebrate the culture of ambassadorship and we host appreciation events for our clients and friends of Ascend.
Ascend offers flexible schedule – some people choose to work from home a few days a week. A few team members choose to work ¾ time instead of a full-time schedule. It works really well for parents with young kids.
Last but not least, the company is growing and expanding. For example, Ascend was recently recognized by Inc.com as one of the fastest growing private companies in the United States. I’ve been promoted four times since I joined the company.
We have a great rotation program that exposes new marketing hires to a lot of departments and types of work until we find the best fit for an employee and the company. Also, we are a fairly flat organization – our CEO’s door is always open. The company invests in employees’ professional development. The most exciting event that I recently attended was the Social Media Marketing Word conference in San Diego.
If I were asked what skillset is critical for succeeding at Ascend, I would definitely call-out being a fast learner, having a go-getter attitude, and having a blend of interpersonal/communications skills and analytical background.
Ascend has a long history of hiring UT graduates. I look forward to saying “Hook ’em Horns” to more of my UT alumni in the Ascend offices in the months to come.
